"After the terror strike in Mumbai on November 26, the continuation of the probe and identification of the culprits depends on the evidence.

Does India have evidence that the men who attacked Mumbai came from Pakistan? That they were recruited and trained and sent by Pakistan-based groups?

Even now, ten days after the attack, the war over the evidence continues to escalate. Even today when the headlines were dominated by Pakistan's supposed promise that they would act against the Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Pakistan clarified that they have made no such promise and once again asked India to come up with evidence to back its claims.

At the centre of India's evidence is Mohammed Ajmal Amir, the terrorist who is in India's custody. It is his story, which nails any doubts about where these men came from.

Here is the full definitive account of the making of Mohammad Ajmal Amir Qasab in his own words.

Qasab: The early years

Qasab said that he studied till class 4 at a government primary school and went to Lahore in 2000 after leaving school. He then stayed with brother Afzal in galli number 54, room number 12, mohalla, Toit Abad, near Yadgar Minar, Lahore.

He said he did labour jobs at different places till 2005. In 2005, he had quarrel with my father and left home. He said, he went to Ali Hajveri Darbar at Lahore, for a home for runaway boys.

From robbery to terrorism

It's at this home for runaway boys that the turning point came. Qasab met a man called Shafiq with whom he worked it seemed in a restaurant. Shafiq introduced him to a man Muzaffar with whom he would enter a life of petty criminality the first step towards becoming a terrorist.

Qasab said that he came in contact with Muzaffar Lal Khan, resident of Romiya Village, Atak Tehsil. He then decided to enter into dacoity to make more money. He hired a flat at Bangash Colony, Rawalpindi.

Qasab told they needed firerarms for the job and in search of firearms, we saw some LeT stalls at Raja Bazaar, Rawalpindi. We decided to join the LeT for weapons training.

Mohammed Ajmal Amir Qasab identified in Faridkot?

An article in newspaper Observer has reported that electoral lists for Faridkot shows a Mohammed Amir and that his national identity card number obtained. A villager is quoted saying that we know that boy (caught in Mumbai) is from Faridkot and they knew him from the first night (of the attack).

"They brainwash our youth about jihad, there are people who do it in this village. It is so wrong," the villager told the Observer.

"Faridkot is active recruiting ground for LeT. Qasab has not lived in Faridkot for four years; visited family once a year. Qasab frequently talked of freeing Kashmir from Indian rule," he added.

Qasab: Training to be LeT

Qasab had three rounds of training to be a Let militant.

Round 1

Qasab told the investigators that they were given Rs 200 and asked to go to Marqas Taiyyaba, Muridke. The first round of training called Daura-Sufa went on for 21 days. There were lectures on Hadis, Quran by Mufti Sayeed. The routine during the round was -- rest, lunch, namaz, PT, games, namaz and dinner.

Round 2

The second round was called Daura-aam or which also took 21 days. It was held at Mansehra, Buttal village. The weapons training was given by Abdul Rehman. The weapons mainly were AK-47, Green-O, SKS, Uzi guns, pistol, revolver. The routine included rest, lunch, namaz, PT, games, namaz and dinner.

He said that they took a break to do Khidmat or service for two months.

Round 3

The third round of training, called Daura-Khas, went on for three months. It was held at Chelabandi Pahadi area. The Weapons instructor this time was Abu Mawiya and they were trained to operate weapons such as hand grenades, rocker launcher and mortar. The lectures were given on Indian security agencies.

Countdown to the mission

Qasab said that out of 32 trainees, 16 were selected for confidential operation by Zaqi-ur-Rehman, who was also called chacha. Out of 16 selected, three ran away.

"Thirteen trainees were then sent for two rounds of training to Muridke camp. We were taught swimming, shown clippings of atrocities on Muslims in India and took lectures on RAW," he said.

Qasab said they were shown film on CST station and were told to kidnap people and take them on a roof of the building. He said we then had to contact Abdul Rahman, who would give numbers of TV channels and we were to contact them on phone and make demands for releasing hostages.

"We were to move on September 27, but it got cancelled. We stayed at Karachi and practised travelling by speed boats. We finally moved on November 23," he said.

washington switches to new policies,war stretches to pakistan

Decision by Iraqi cabinet that has set date for departure of America with Washington consent signals tectonic shift in USA policies and its approach on "war against terrorism".
though it has not been unexpected one .long before election obama criticized war in iraq as diversion from Afghanistan and said that war in iraq was war of choice not of necessity.this transition of policy being adopted in Washington power corridors simply means that sphere of war is now closing in to Afghanistan and tribal areas of Pakistan.
USA is actively on the chessboard of Afghanistan again but its key player pakistan's fragile political infrastructure,tanking economy,crumbling security situation and spiking insurgency along its western borders and frontier province has raised doubts of its sincerity in the minds of its establishment and thinktanks.
would Pakistan be able to accommodate this thrust of policy?could it offer blind assistance to USA. According to me ,if Pakistan administration fails to response as anticipated then the option has always been present for USA in the form of India,possible cooperation that musharraf had advocated as the reason for joing the hands of west in the war against terrorism in the past is shaping again.
Indian influence,though remained obscure but acted behind the scene.during last seven years Indian companies have established their strong footings,helped to build ring road as an alternate route to gwadar,built infrastructure,enhanced its work force and diplomatic troops and even forged ties with few factions of Taliban.If USA goes this way then the guns are likely to be turned against Pakistan sooner than later.
This way of pressing Pakistan would not yield anything or help counterinsurgency measure rather aggravate the crisis in Afghanistan and its effects now are likely to be felt in whole region.
There are palpable flaws in America strategic approach and counterinsurgency measures.
Sir frank kitson is renowned military author and no living soldier in west had more counterinsurgency experience than him.Mr kitson observes in one of his account that "defeating terrorist or insurgent consist largely in founding them ,garnering accurate and timely information that can only be achieved through winning trust of local population who support the insurgent tacitly or actively"
USA approach has entirely been anti-thesis of this,its aerial raids in afghanistan or incursion in Pakistan resulting in killing of civilian particularly children and women has further alienated the general population.

American establishment has completely overlooked the fact that geography and tribal loyalities has shaped the history of this region than any foreign force.administration in Washington expects from Pakistan to convince or force tribal elders where necessarily to cooperate with USA and NATO to quell insurgency but these moves are to be based on sound heart and mind winning strategies not with the use of force and fail in longterm as people see USA,Taliban and alqaeda through the same prism,as all of them have disrupted the serenity and peace of their area.
This will be rhetoric to neglect the clout of print and electronic media as it was substaintiated by recent presidential polls where people of USA swept the way where media wanted them too.western media highly biased attitude bringing pakistan nearly equal to countries like somalia is harbinger of nothing something positive.

There seems complete ignorance of USA media and excitable politician when Pakistan is animated as country whose nuclear arsenals could be seized anytime by radicalist.these rumormongers completely overlook the fact that though Pakistan ruling may be divided in its ambition but are against these extremist and resurgent who could destroy their wealth and monopoly over the country.west must understand that Pakistani nation is against these orthodox ideas of extremist not based on their cliché of modernity but their adherence to social values and local traditions

Pakistan is viewed as country whose military and intelligence are creating trouble by both Mr.Karzai and USA.pakistani security establishment was vilified for having relationship with Taliban and Afghan president blamed Pakistan for colluding with Taliban to create instability in his country.In fact this was an attempt to distract world community from the real challenges like growing opium-trade,rising influence of drug and warlord and weakning of central government that Karzai had been failed to address.Unexpected statement came, when this week karazai went far end by saying that he will not contest presidential election if USA did not provide amnesty to molvi umer if he did agree to talk with current regime.

If this is the credibility and dual standard of Mr.Karazai then how one can expect from us that we would slain our strategic goal and will sit silently when our energy needs are not met while USA make deal with India,how Pakistan can digest the "strategic and economic base"which India has established,though there has been rapprocation in few last year but we have fought three full scale wars with it. Pakistan military and civil establishment has deep reservation against prejudice being directed at us and surely these are justified one's.USA will leave Afghanistan sooner or later as we learn from history, it went to such adventures in korea,Vietnam and iraq, that were all carried away from its own shores. It doesnot mean pakistan wants any confronation with india but leaving behind a country virtually with Indian hegemony will be nightmare for us.

these rampant incursions in Pakistan territory resulting in killing of civilian,whatever sort of quiet deal has been struck but they must realize they it doesnot not enjoy support and consent of parliament and military inner circle.threat of disintegeration of Pakistan does not come from these radicalist, but real threat comes from economic crisis and USA military intervention.Ahmad rashid and B.R. Rubin proposes USA in their recent work published in "foreign affairs" to compensate Pakistan if it really want to win war in afghanistan and that could be initiated by the formation of contact group that address the legitimate grievenance of Pakistan and set an outline for providing Pakistan nuclear civilian plant like India after assurance by Pakistani government about the stability and strong command and control system.they also state that USA should ask India to seize the activities of its research intelligence wing that Pakistan claims is trying to destabilize P akistan internally.

But it would surely be miscalculation by America to go after alqaeda and henchman without satisfying Pakistani reservation.every single attack on Pakistan territory,every single casualties in tribal belt will turn tide against USA and its interest,these tactics will certainly wear out the motivational and combative capability of Pakistan military personnel and worst nightmare can come into, resulting disintegeration of Pakistani military along ethnic lines .this will stymie every hope and possibility of durable peace and prosperity of afghanistan. Rashid and Rubin suggest America to go for great bargain but to me such bargain at the cost of Pakistan interest and sovereignity will be foolish bargain.
Finally, time will be better litmus test of Pakistani relations with USA but to me growing influence of Clinton machinery and likely appointment of hillary as secratery of state would erode obama mantra of change,the way things are turning out forecast the relation to be more at daggers drawn

a second thought, maybe?

I have a been a keen spectater of Mumabi attacks the hour it started till now. I must say that it was nevertheless a tragic event for all of us, which took many innocent lives with it. Having said that, I am also devestated by the fact how the political figures and media channels are exploiting such tragedy for their sake of shinning new medals of their shameful chest and increasing their trps....

I have all my sympathies and well wishes with my Indian neighbours... 

So being a Pakistani myself, i would like to present my own or must i say a common Pakistani's perspective to this harsh situation.

Media Channel are leaving no bright chance to enhace their viewership and on the same hand Indian government playing hide and seek, which seems to me as bogus tactics.

Whenever there have been an attack or terror act on Indian soil, Pakistan is blamed as an escape goat. Agreeing to the fact that Pakistan is fighting its own problems when we talk about Taliban insurgency, Afghanistan and economic termoil. I would like to humbly ask my Indian fellows what exactly Pakistan will gain from attacking India at this point of time, when we have an economic termoil in the country and we are too victims of terrorism, paying a huge price/blood in the U.S led war on terrorism.

Lets rewind our calenders and history tapes and go back to not just one but many terror incidents in India, that were blamed on Pakistan but later found no links to Pak at all.

18 Feb 2007: Samjhota Express Blast. Blamed on Pakistan as usually in which 27 Pakistanis were killed. LeT was supposedely pushed to be involved in this attack as well.

Later several weeks ago, we know that Srikant Prohit, an Indian Lt. Col and several others were found guity for their involvment in this and the case was still under investigation until yesterday Dec 01, 2008 which was being investigated by Mr. Karkare (Killed in Mumbai Attack).

Lets come to the Mumbai attack. Terrorists came down on boat to Mumbai and after that we have seens everything on Tv. First thing we saw on Indian channels was the picture of a young guy, wearing Versace and clean shaven holding rather a sophisticated weapon.

Now since LeT is supposed to be an "Islamic Militants Group" or HARDCORE EXTREMISTS, I am unable to understand why would they hire someone like a guy in the picture, wearing somewhat Un-Islamic wrist band that completely contradicts what LeT stands for, I may be wrong.

The terrorist got to Mumbai on a boat. Many people do not know that from last couple of weeks, Indian navy is busy playing war games in Gujrat water sea. How possibly a boat can pass navy and coast guards that easily especially when coast guards and navy are both busy in their traning sessions.

We hear eye witnesses that saw boat harboring Mumbai and they saw with them Explosives and arms before the attacks. How and why they were unable to inform the authorities when they saw such activies going on before the attacks and came under media light after 20+ hours of attack?

How come Indian intelligence when informed about the attack did not act accordingly as said by the Indian officials. And now they have complete information as to how they got to Mumbai even way before one terrorist alive was caught. Media started speculating LeT involvments in it, such as the involvment of Pakistan Army and as of IBN Pakistan Navy.

We were reported that SIm cards were also found when the terrorists we gunned down. But we have forgot that report by IBN on the second day of attack, that they also found many Credit cards from the bank in Indian (Not Pakistani Banks). How do you consider a Pakistanis get Indian bank cards ? specially when they came down directly from Pakistan on boat.

Attack which must have taken a lot of traning and complete knowldge of the surroundings. Terrorists knew where they were going and what they were doing. Nariman house is not easy to be found by a common man on the road unlike Taj/Oberio. How come the guys knew exactly where they were headed.  Why would an attacker, trained so well, planned so well at attack would commit such mistakes of making calls to Pakistan (if he was from Pakistan) from his phone or sat phones where did he get Indian bank cards.

As far as my knowldge is concerened, you cant just give a nice beating to an LeT member and he will burp out everything he knew. But from the past attacks what I have seen, these hardcore militants kill themselves before surrendering or even in danger of getting caught. Now we hear that even the guys holding "Indian Bank Cards" are Pakistanis. I may be wrong here as well.

Lets talk about Mr. Karkare. We all know he was the man investigating Indian Army involvment in supplying RDX and help for blast in Samjhota Express and Maligaon Blasts. And he was seen as a prick by many bad eyes. How did he get killed? He was not in combat operation with the terrorists when he recieved shots but he was sitting in this VAN prepared with bullets proof vest. Having served in U.S Army CENTCOM as a civilian personnel, I know that a regular bullet or the bullet of attackers from a long distance can never kill anyone with level 3 bullet proof vest. The ONLY thing that can do good in this situation is the Sniper Rifle loaded with Steel Bullet. 

Evidence and post mortom report tells us that Karkare was shot from the back and not while confronting with the attacker. He is dead now and so is the case against Col. Prohit got closed as of Dec 1, 2008 due to lack of proofs against him, which apparently were with Karkare. I May be wrong here too.

Now Star News discovered yet another Bollywood masala character called "Rehman CHacha". Somehow LeT trained terrorist told Indian investigators that he was trained by Rehman Chacha. And they even showed the videos of Rehman chacha talking to someone on the phone and terrorists getting trained. How on earth Star Network got its hand on this video at very right time when Indians are at a great shock. I dont personally trust Star News since they aired a video when on Kargil war showing Surrendered Pakistani Soldiers bowing down to a dead body so-to perform their religious burial, which actually was untrue because Muslims dont prostate to any living/dead. And I may be wrong.

There are a lot of bit that are being forcefully joined and linked toegther without any true evidence.

I know that they have captured one terrorists "believed to be a Pakistani", who actually is changing his statements that he was first trained by Navy, Then Rehman Chacha, and so on...

Indian intelligence experts oopenly say on TV that they knew how and where it was going to happen, as well as the terrorists were coming from Pakistan. If the intelligence was too solid and accurate, why did they fail to stop the culprits before hand?

Coastal Gurads failed to stop them? Intelligence failed too? NSG commandos who took 60+ hours on such operations went striking without a solid plan. Experts tell us that we have 30 mins to 3 hours maximum in a hostage situation for less causalities. But in this case it was all different.

Indian ministers and politicians started commenting about Pakistan way before they even captured one of the terrorists....

We also need to remember that the attack comes right after a few days of announcement made by Pakistan President that India posses no threat to the country and that we wanted brotherly relations with our neigbour.

I am not bothered by what Indian media is depicting at this stage, but SAD how they are playing to turn a common man's opinion towards Indo-Pak relationships. And.. So are the governments of both the countries.

I would suggest and hope that Indian government give ISI repro, access to the "already caught" terrorist to see if he is really from Pakistan. Because ONLY a Pakistani can tell whether the other person is really from Pak or not.

We, being Pakistanis look forward to have friendly, brotherly relations with India and break the barriers of hatred/extremisn that is led by many groups and organization working in both the countries.

WAR is not a solution but a road to destruction !

The Diplomatic and Political body of India along with general public is hurt and outraged.As the audacity and scale of violence has created fear in the mind of battle hardened Mumbai-kars
The outrage in Mumbai is much higher and as Mumbai is the economic powerhouse of India... guilty politicians from UPA govt have started resigning

The Indian govt very well knows that the current Pakistan govt is itself a victim of terror and has nothing to do with terrorist and hence the Indian govt is pressuring Pakistan govt only to act swiftly and punish the culprits

The general public is divided on whom to blame - the Govt of India or whole Pakistan or elements in Pakistan.....But it isnt thristy for blood or war..but its thristy to live and live in peace and hence is looking for alternative solutions to achieve those
